Speaker Mūrniece on the Remembrance Day of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide: when we think of Ukraine, we also think of the Crimean Tatars
“It is in our interests that Ukraine achieves full victory and its territorial sovereignty is restored, and Crimea must be returned to Ukraine. This is a precondition for sustainable peace in Europe. The Crimean Tatars are patriots of Ukraine, and when we think of Ukraine, we also think of the Crimean Tatars,” said Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, on Wednesday, 18 May, at the videoconference organised by the Crimean Tatar Mejlis. Today marks 78 years since the deportations of the Crimean Tatars carried out by the Soviet regime.
Over one thousand visitors attend exhibition dedicated to the Parliament’s centenary on the Night of Museums
On the Night of Museums, the evening of 14 May, the exhibition Saeima—100 at the Saeima building dedicated to the Parliament’s centenary gathered over one thousand visitors.

Support to persons receiving Ukrainians fleeing war
On Thursday, 12 May, in the second and final reading, the Saeima supported urgent amendments to the Law on Assistance to Ukrainian Civilians. The changes aim to support persons who provide Ukrainian civilians fleeing the war with accommodation in their property free of charge.
Saeima suspends bilateral agreement between Latvia and Russia on memorial buildings and monuments
On Thursday, 12 May, the Saeima supported in the second and final reading an urgent Draft Law that stipulates the suspension of the bilateral agreement between Latvia and Russia on memorial buildings and monuments.

Saeima greenlights Latvian troops’ participation of UN international operation “United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation”
On Thursday, April 28, the Saeima decided on the participation of the Latvian National Armed Forces troops in the United Nations (UN) international operation “United Nations Truce Supervision Organization” (UNTSO) for a period until 1 May 2024.
