The Saeima changes procedure for extending temporary residence permits of Russian and Belarusian citizens
On Thursday, 22 September, the Saeima supported in the second and final reading urgent amendments to the Immigration Law, changing the procedure of applying for and extending temporary residence permits for Russian and Belarusian citizens.
On Thursday, 22 September, the Saeima adopted in the second and final reading urgent amendments to the Law on Assistance to Ukrainian Civilians that, among other provisions, stipulate an opportunity for Ukrainians fleeing the war to receive an allowance for becoming self-employed.
Saeima adopts statement calling for non recognition of Russian organised referendum results
On Thursday, 22 September, the Saeima adopted a Statement on the referendums organised by the Russian Federation in the occupied territories of Ukraine. In the Statement, the Saeima calls on the international community for non-recognition of the results of the so‑called referendums or any other “expressions of the will of the people” organised by the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, as well as the Russian Federation passports issued in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
Saeima supports ban on fur farming
On Thursday, 22 September, the Saeima supported in the third and final reading amendments to the Animal Protection Law, providing that breeding animals for the sole purpose of obtaining fur is prohibited.
Saeima suspends three bilateral agreements between Latvia and Belarus

Procedure for using the parental benefit is changed
The Saeima on Thursday, 15 September, adopted in the final reading the amendments to the Law on Maternity and Sickness Insurance. With them, the procedure for using the parental benefit has been changed.
Saeima affirms independence of Latvian Orthodox Church from any ecclesiastical authority outside Latvia
On Thursday, 8 September, the Saeima adopted urgent amendments to the Law on the Latvian Orthodox Church affirming the full independence of the Latvian Orthodox Church with all its dioceses, parishes, and institutions from any church authority outside Latvia (autocephalous church).
'Freedom' lilacs planted in Independence Square to celebrate Saeima centenary
"May 'Freedom' bloom abundantly, may our country be free and independent, may our statehood be strong, and may Latvia blossom with white, beautiful, simple, and fragrant flowers," said Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, at the lilac planting ceremony dedicated to the centenary of the Saeima on Thursday, 8 September. The lilac variety 'Freedom’ (Brīve), selected in honour of the centenary of the Saeima, was planted in Independence Square, near Jēkaba iela, in Riga.
