Saeima invites to the Open Door Day on 27 September

(09.09.2024.)

Celebrating important anniversaries for Latvia – 35 years since the Baltic Way and 20 years since the accession to the European Union and NATO – the main building of the Saeima invites everyone to apply for a visit to the Open Door Day. It will take place on 27 September from 10:00 to 18:00, and applications for the event are accepted by 24 September.

This year marks 35 years since two million people from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia joined hands on the Baltic Way – from Tallinn through Riga to Vilnius – to stand up for the freedom of their countries. In honour of this event, visitors will have the opportunity to send a postcard dedicated to this anniversary free of charge to any place in Latvia.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to take a photo at the installation “Join the Baltic Way!”. It will be possible to join hands with the participants of the campaign and symbolically become a part of the historical event in the name of freedom and democracy.

While celebrating the 20th anniversary of Latvia's accession to the European Union and NATO, the visitors of the Saeima will have an opportunity to explore Latvia's path to membership of the North Atlantic Alliance and find out the benefits that we enjoy as citizens of the European Union on a daily basis.

On the Open Doors Day, visitors will be able to see the various Parliament’s premises – the Saeima Sitting Chamber, where Members of Parliament gather for the weekly sittings, the Voting Room, the Yellow Room, and the Red Room, as well as the function rooms.

The Saeima will also offer visitors information on parliamentary projects for young people – the photo competition “My Latvia. My responsibility”, the school programme “Meet the Saeima” and the project “Youth Parliament”.

Visitors of the Saeima are invited to come either in groups or individually. Given that a limited number of visitors may be present in the Saeima building at the same time, preference will be given to those who have booked their visit in advance.

You are invited to apply for the visit to the Saeima on the Open Doors Day until September 24; Application form:  https://saeima.lv/en/application-form/open-day-form

The Saeima is an open parliament, and people have the opportunity to visit the Saeima not only during the Open Doors event, but also on a daily basis by applying for a tour.
