Saeima appoints Jānis Bordāns as the Minister of Justice

On Thursday, 5 July, the Saeima held an extraordinary sitting in which Jānis Bordāns was appointed as the Minister of Justice. 

Jānis Bordāns has been the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and also the Advisor to the Prime Minister since November 2011. He became an attorney at law and was admitted to the Latvian Bar Association in 1996. He has worked for the Riga City Vidzeme District Prosecutor’s Office, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Trade. Jānis Bordāns was a member of the 5th convocation of the Saeima. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Law, University of Latvia. 

Fifty-nine Saeima members voted for Bordāns, 19 against and one abstained.
