On Wednesday, 9 February, a majority of the Budget and Finance (Taxation) Committee approved the concept of improving the financing system in the health-care sector and thus to ensure fair access to state-funded medical services and to combat the shadow economy.
On Friday, 3 February, Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, and Mehmet Ali Şahin, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, had a meeting followed by a press briefing during which Āboltiņa noted that Turkey is Latvia’s strategic partner with whom we have to promote close economic cooperation.

“We should bear in mind that the Baltic States renewed their de iure status by joint efforts in fights for freedom and in diplomacy,” said Speaker Solvita Āboltiņa in her address at the academic seminar to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the de iure recognition of Estonia held in Tallinn (Estonia).
During her official visit to the Republic of Estonia, Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, met Ene Ergma, Speaker of the Estonian parliament, and emphasized that the unity of the Baltic States is still important and that we have to use the political and economic potential of our cooperation pragmatically.
This year the Saeima will once again participate in Job Shadow Day. Schoolchildren are invited to shadow MPs and staff members on 16 February in order to observe firsthand the routine work of the parliament and thus to become acquainted with the skills and knowledge they will need in the future.
