The Saeima reduces the number of documents required when applying for several benefits

(02.12.2010.)

On Thursday, 2 December, in the second final reading the Saeima adopted amendments to the Law on Maternity and Sickness Insurance, which were considered urgent. Amendments simplified the accessibility of paternity benefits, child-care benefits and funeral allowance.

From now on, the State Social Insurance Agency will obtain information needed for adopting a decision on granting the benefits or allowances from the Population Register and will no longer request it from the applicant.

Thus, in order to receive the paternity benefit or child-care benefit, the client will not have to present a birth certificate to the State Social Insurance Agency. Furthermore, the statement regarding the registration of the fact of death will not be needed in order to receive a funeral allowance.
