Speaker of the Saeima signs book of condolence at Belgian embassy

On Friday, 18 October, Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, signed the book of condolence at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Riga in memory of Wilfried Martens, former Prime Minister of Belgium.

The Speaker of the Saeima conveys her deepest condolences to Wilfried Martens’ family and the people of Belgium.

In her condolence, Speaker Āboltiņa points out that Wilfried Martens will be remembered as an excellent friend, colleague and patriot of Belgium, as well as an important person for all of Europe.

Wilfried Martens was the Prime Minister of Belgium from 1979 to 1992. He was also the Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Representatives of the Belgian parliament, a member of the Senate, as well as a member of the European Parliament. Wilfried Martens passed away on 9 October at the age of 77.
