Saeima approves Evika Siliņa’s government

On Friday, 15 September, the Saeima during its extraordinary sitting with 53 votes for and 39 votes against gave a vote of confidence to Evika Siliņa and her Cabinet of Ministers.  

The newly approved government will include Andris Sprūds as Minister of Defence, Krišjānis Kariņš as Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Viktors Valainis as Minister of Economics. Arvils Ašeradens will remain the Minister of Finance, Anda Čakša—the Minister of Education and Science, and Rihards Kozlovskis has been appointed as Minister of the Interior. 

Kaspars Melnis has been appointed as Minister for Climate and Energy, Agnese Logina as Minister of Culture, and Uldis Augulis as Minister of Welfare. Kaspars Briškens will be in charge of the Ministry of Transport, and Inese Lībiņa-Egnere will take the office of Minister of Justice. Hosams Abu Meri has been appointed as Minister of Health, Inga Bērziņa as Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, and Armands Krauze as Minister of Agriculture. 

The Saeima approved the new Cabinet due to Krišjānis Kariņš resigning from the post of Prime Minister on 14 August 2023, thus dissolving the government. President Edgars Rinkēvičs has nominated Evika Siliņa, the candidate for the office of Prime Minister, to form the new Cabinet.
