Cooperation memorandum signed between Uzbek and Latvian MPs

On Tuesday, 25 September, while on a working visit to Uzbekistan, Andrejs Klementjevs, Deputy Speaker of the Saeima, signed a cooperation memorandum between the interparliamentary relations groups of Latvia’s and Uzbekistan’s parliaments.

With this memorandum, the group for interparliamentary relations with Uzbekistan of the Saeima and the interparliamentary group Uzbekistan–Latvia of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan undertake to develop cooperation on the parliamentary and committee level, to enhance economic, political and legal relations, to foster information and opinion exchange on the most significant issues of international and regional development, as well as on legislative issues.

Both parties are interested in exchanging experience in supporting the economy and SMEs, as well as in the areas of social security, health care, environmental protection, culture and the fight against organised crime.

The memorandum is in force for two years starting from the day of its signing, and its provisions allow another two-year extension.

Deputy Speaker Andrejs Klementjevs is on a working visit to Uzbekistan from 25 to 29 September. He is accompanied by Elīna Siliņa, Chairperson of the Public Expenditure and Audit Committee, and Raimonds Vējonis, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Monitoring the Drafting and Implementation of the National Development Plan.
