The Saeima website now contains a link to topical information about the NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s (PA) 2010 Spring Session that will be held from 28 May until 1 June 2010 in Riga.
The new Internet website offers information about the planned agenda of the Session, the Latvian delegation to the NATO PA, as well as about documents adopted at previous sessions. Moreover, visitors can look at photos and video materials, as well as learn more about both the NATO PA and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation itself. As the date of the Session gets closer, this website will also contain news important for inhabitants of Latvia and the mass media, as well as practical information for delegates and guests of the Session who will arrive in Latvia at the end of May. The new website will be regularly updated with the latest information concerning preparation for the Session and the course of the Session. The NATO PA website can be accessed by clicking on the Session’s logo “Rīga 2010” on the Saeima website https://www.saeima.lv/index_eng.html, or by visiting the website http://www.natopariga.lv/en/.The NATO Parliamentary Assembly is a consultative inter-parliamentary organisation founded in 1955 which unites parliamentarians from 28 member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. Delegates from NATO associate member states, representatives of the European Parliament, as well as parliamentary observers from several non-NATO countries also participate in the Assembly’s work.
NATO PA sessions take place twice a year – in spring and autumn. Sessions are important events in this international organisation, and all NATO member states take turns in organising them.
At present, Latvia is one of the last member states in which the Session has not yet been held. Lithuania organised the NATO PA Session in 2001, and Estonia will do so in 2012.
