Saeima charges the government with the task of borrowing financial resources from international lenders

At an extraordinary plenary sitting on Thursday 21 January, the Saeima adopted a resolution charging the Cabinet of Ministers with the task of borrowing funds as part of the international loan programme. 

Fifty-four Saeima members voted for the draft resolution, 22 voted against it and 3 abstained. 

According to the resolution, the government receives a parliamentary mandate to continue borrowing funds as part of the international loan programme in order to mitigate the consequences of the financial and economic crisis. The loan can be used for financing the national budget deficit, stabilising the financial sector, refinancing the national debt, as well as for loans from the national budget.
