Speaker calls on MPs to give up recess and continue working until referendum
On 31 May, Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, addressed a letter to chairpersons of committees and parliamentary groups urging the Council of Parliamentary Groups to adopt a decision to continue the work of the Saeima without recess until 23 July, when the referendum on the dissolution of the Saeima will be held.
Legal Affairs Committee supports the idea of discontinuing the printed version of the official newspaper Latvijas Vēstnesis
On Tuesday, 31 May, the Legal Affairs Committee conceptually supported the new Law on Official Publications, thereby discontinuing the publication of a printed version of the official newspaper Latvijas Vēstnesis.
MPs meet with the Baltic Defence College students
On Wednesday, 25 May, members of the Defence, Internal Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee met with students and lecturers from the course on Joint Command and General Staff at the Baltic Defence College to talk about current security policy issues, as well as parliamentary oversight of the defence area and armed forces.
During meeting with President of the Bundestag, Āboltiņa stresses active cooperation of both countries
On Tuesday, 24 May, during her working visit to Berlin, Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, met with Norbert Lammert, President of the Bundestag, and declared that the relations between Latvia and Germany are active and dynamic on all levels and that Latvia is interested in continuing their close cooperation.

On Monday, 16 May, representatives of the parliament and the non-governmental sector discussed national strategic development at the forum Stability, Partnership, Development. At the conclusion of the forum, Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, pointed out that sustainable development of the state is possible if politicians, entrepreneurs and society work together.
On Monday, 16 May, the Saeima forum on Stability, Partnership, Development will bring together representatives of the parliament and non-governmental organisations to discuss the strategic development of our state. 
On the Night of Museums the main building of the Saeima will be open for visitors
On Saturday, 14 May, when the Night of Museums events take place in Latvia, anyone interested will have a chance to visit the Saeima as well. Visitors will have an opportunity to view the interior of the main building of the Saeima, attend several exhibitions dedicated to the Saeima’s cooperation with parliaments of neighbouring countries and vote for one of the proposed logo designs for the 21 August celebrations.
On the Night of Museums on 14 May, all visitors of the main building of the Saeima will have a chance to vote for one of the five proposed logo designs for the 21 August celebrations. The logos designed by children and young people can be viewed on the website www.21augusts.lv devoted to the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitutional Law on the Statehood of the Republic of Latvia.
Speakers of the Saeima and the Riksdag discuss interparliamentary cooperation
On Tuesday, 10 May, Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, met with Per Westerberg, Speaker of the Riksdag, in Stockholm and expressed her opinion that during last 20 years bilateral relations between Latvia and Sweden have been very active because both countries have had close cooperation in international politics, education, culture and economics.
