Saeima supports extending the state of emergency at Latvia Belarus border

(19.05.2022.)

On Thursday, 19 May, the Saeima supported the government decision to extend the state of emergency at the Latvia‑Belarus border.

The amendments provide that the state of emergency in Ludza, Krāslava, and Augšdaugava Municipalities and the State city of Daugavpils is to be extended until 10 August 2022.

The state of emergency was declared in August 2021 in view of the sharp increase in the number of illegal crossings of the Latvian‑Belarusian border, as well as taking into account the substantial number of illegal crossings of the Lithuanian‑Belarusian border detected in Lithuania.
