On 31 May, Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, addressed a letter to chairpersons of committees and parliamentary groups urging the Council of Parliamentary Groups to adopt a decision to continue the work of the Saeima without recess until 23 July, when the referendum on the dissolution of the Saeima will be held.
“I call on MPs and committees to join efforts in intensive parliamentary work oriented towards strategic development of the state until the day of the referendum. I believe that in the current situation, it is necessary to continue working on draft laws essential for national development,” stressed Āboltiņa.
The Speaker called on the committees of the 10th Saeima to identify and focus on matters and draft laws under consideration that are important for national development and that should be reviewed as soon as possible.
