Latvia introduces eID card for foreigners
On Thursday, 17 June, the Saeima adopted in the final reading urgent amendments to the Personal Identification Documents Law, which provide for a personal identification, or eID, card for foreigners to be introduced in Latvia.
Saeima supports introduction of business income account
On Wednesday, June 16, the Saeima adopted amendments to the Law on Taxes and Duties that provide for the introduction of business income account in order to simplify the payment of taxes.
Saeima adopts the Historical Latvian Lands Law
On Wednesday, 16 June, the Saeima adopted the Historical Latvian Lands Law. It aims to create the necessary preconditions for strengthening the common identity of the population and for the preservation and sustainable development of the cultural and historical environment and cultural spaces of the historical Latvian lands.
On Thursday, 16 June, the Saeima adopted in the second and final reading urgent amendments to the Law on Public Holidays, Remembrance and Festive Days providing for several new remembrance days: the National Partisan Armed Resistance Remembrance Day, National Resistance Movement Remembrance Day, as well as the 21 November 2013 Tragedy Remembrance Day. The amendments also set out a new festive day, the Official Language Day.
Saeima: students from large families to be eligible for social scholarships
On Wednesday, 16 June, the Saeima adopted in the second and final reading urgent amendments to the Law on Higher Education Institutions. The amendments provide for the possibility for students from families with at least three children to receive support in the form of social scholarships allocated from the state budget funds.
Juris Pūce approved as the Head of the Latvian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe
On Wednesday, 16 June, the Saeima approved Juris Pūce as the Head of the Latvian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Co-​operation in Europe (OSCE PA).
Saeima adopts a new law on debt relief for natural persons
On Tuesday, 15 June, the Saeima adopted in the final reading a new law on debt relief for natural persons, as well as relevant amendments to other laws.
Starting from 2025, eID card to be mandatory for Latvians abroad
On Thursday, 10 June, the Saeima adopted in the final reading amendments to the Personal Identification Documents Law, whereby, starting from 2025, the eID card will be a mandatory personal identification document for persons living abroad.
European Affairs Committee supports Latvia’s position on introduction of the EU Digital COVID Certificate, and climate change
On Friday, 21 May, Members of the European Affairs Committee of the Saeima supported Latvia’s national position in the extraordinary European Council meeting on the introduction of the EU Digital COVID Certificate in the European Union (EU), climate change issues, as well as relations with Russia and the United Kingdom.
