Saeima to host meeting of the chairersons of the European Affairs Committees of the parliaments of the Baltic States and Poland

On Monday, 24 April, the Saeima will host a meeting of the chairpersons of the European Affairs Committees of the parliaments of the Baltic States and Poland.

The chairpersons of the committees will discuss the European Union’s neighbourhood policy and security policy in the context of external challenges and support for Ukraine. Furthermore, support for the European integration of EU candidate countries – Ukraine and Moldova – will also be discussed during the meeting.

The participants of the meeting will also talk about the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the chairpersons of the Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC).

The participants will be address by Andris Sprūds, Chair of the European Affairs Committee of the Saeima, Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze, Chair of the Committee on Ukraine’s integration into the EU of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and Andris Kuženieks, Deputy Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Latvia and Head of the Policy Department at the Representation.

At the end of the meeting, the chairpersons of the committees will visit the Riga Hydroelectric Power Plant and solar panel park in Salaspils.

The meeting of the chairpersons of the European Affairs Committees of the parliaments of the Baltic States and Poland will commence at 9:00 on Monday, 24 April, in the meeting room of the European Affairs Committee of the Saeima at Jēkaba iela 6/8 in Riga.

The chairpersons of the European Affairs Committees of the parliaments of the Baltic States and Poland traditionally meet twice a year to discuss current European Union affairs. These meetings strengthen cooperation, promote exchange of opinions and help find compromises in shaping policy in line with the national interests of all the states.
