MPs visit Tbilisi to discuss the implementation of Eastern partnership policy

(01.12.2017.)

Lolita Čigāne, Chair of the Saeima European Affairs Committee, Ojārs Ēriks Kalniņš, Chair of the Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee, and MP Artis Rasmanis, member of the Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee, will visit the Georgian capital Tbilisi to discuss the outcomes of the 5th Eastern Partnership Summit with officials from Eastern Partnership countries.

On Sunday, 3 December, the Saeima and the Embassy of Latvia in Georgia will hold an Eastern Partnership Summit assessment workshop in Tbilisi. Officials from the three Baltic countries and all Eastern Partnership countries – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine – shall take stock of the Summit held at the end of November in Brussels and discuss the future of the policy.

The tradition to organise interparliamentary workshops assessing the outcomes of Eastern Partnership summits was established based on an initiative from the Saeima during Latvia’s presidency of the EU Council.

On Monday, 4 December, Latvian MPs will join a strategic discussion on defence and security-related issues organised by the Administration of the President of Georgia.

On Monday and Tuesday, the 4th and 5th of December, MPs will attend a conference hosted by Georgian parliament, titled “EU and Partners: Embracing Diversity for Stronger Unity”. MP Lolita Čigāne will address the attendees of a session focusing on the transposition of EU laws into national legislation, whereas MP Ojārs Ēriks Kalniņš will discuss the future of the EU as one of the speakers in the thematic session devoted to the topic.
