On Saturday, 9 June, Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, sent letters to Jean-Pierre Bel, President of the Senate of France, and Bernard Accoyer, President of the National Assembly of France, offering her condolences in regard to the death of four French soldiers serving in the NATO-led peace-keeping mission in Afghanistan.

On behalf of the Saeima, Speaker Āboltiņa expressed heartfelt condolences to the people of France and the bereaved families mourning the sudden loss of their loved ones and wished a rapid recovery to the wounded soldiers.
