On Wednesday, 7 September, Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, in her letter to Boris Gryzlov, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, expressed condolences regarding the tragic airline crash in Yaroslavl, which took the lives of the players of the Continental Hockey League team Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.

On behalf of the Saeima, Speaker Āboltiņa also expressed heartfelt condolences to the families mourning for the sudden loss of their loved ones, as well as to all the ice-hockey fans.
