The Saeima appoints Mrs.Dagnija Staķe and Mr.Didzis Gavars as ministers

On Thursday, 13 May, the Saeima appointed Mrs.Dagnija Staķe as the Minister for Regional Development and Local Governments, and Mr.Didzis Gavars as the Minister for Health. 

Mrs.Dagnija Staķe currently is a member of the Saeima and a Chairperson of the Public Health Subcommittee of the Social and Employment Matters Committee; she is also a member of the Social and Employment Matters Committee, Public Expenditure and Audit Committee, and Social Security Subcommittee of the Social and Employment Matters Committee. From 2002 to 2007, Mrs. Dagnijas Staķe was a Minister for Welfare. She has also served as the Chairperson of the Tukums District Council, and the Chairperson of the Tume Rural District Council. She has a master’s degree in public management from the University of Latvia.

48 Saeima members voted for the appointment of Mrs.Staķe, 24 voted against, and 5 abstained.

The new Minister for Health is a board member at the SIA E.Gulbja Laboratorija, and since 1993 he has been a Deputy Director of this enterprise. In April, Mr.Didzis Gavars was elected as a board member at the Health-Care Managers Association. Mr.Gavars graduated from the Medical Academy of Latvia.

49 Saeima members voted for the appointment of Mr.Gavars, 25 voted against, and 16 abstained.
