On Friday, 27 November, in Vilnius, Lithuania, the Baltic Assembly (BA) 2009 prizes for literature, the arts and science were awarded. 
Taking the floor in the debates at the Assembly’s Autumn Session, which is taking place from 13 to 17 November in Edinburgh (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland), Vaira Paegle, head of the Latvian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, expressed doubts about Europe’s new security architecture proposed by Russia.
Members of the Saeima will participate in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s (NATO PA) Autumn Session, which will take place from 13 to 17 November in the city of Edinburgh, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. 
On Thursday, 5 November, the Parliament of Latvia (Saeima) at the first reading supported in principle the draft law on the next year’s state budget submitted by the government. 
On Friday, 16 October, at the parliament of the Republic of Latvia, an international jury assessed the candidates for the annual Baltic Assembly (BA) Prize and determined that the Prize for Literature should be awarded to Inga Ābele for her novel Paisums (High Tide), the BA Prize for the Arts should be awarded to Estonian artist Marko Mäetamm, and the BA Prize for Science should be awarded to Leonardas Sauka, a folklore researcher from Lithuania
On Thursday, 15 October, the Parliament of Latvia (Saeima) decided to extend the mandate of troops from the National Armed Forces of Latvia in a NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan till 13 October 2010. 
“The Latvian parliament is aware that fulfilment of the agreement made with the international donors is the only way to bring the country out of the economic crisis and restore credibility among international investors,” said Solvita Āboltiņa, during the meeting in Riga, the capital of Latvia, with Joaquín Almunia, the EU Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, on Tuesday, 13 October. 
On Tuesday, 22 September, Gundars Daudze, Speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Latvia (the Saeima), and David Darchiashvili, Chairman of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, opened a photo exhibition devoted to the events that took place in Georgia in August 2008. 
On Tuesday, 16 June, at its extraordinary meeting the Saeima (Parliament of Latvia) at the final reading adopted amendments to the Law on National Budget for 2009 and amendments to 111 budget-related laws which were drafted by the government.
