On Thursday, 17 October, the Saeima decided to extend the service of soldiers from the Latvian National Armed Forces in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force mission in Afghanistan.
Support for continued participation of Latvian troops in the peace-keeping mission in Afghanistan was expressed by 71 MPs, while 6 voted against and 3 abstained.
On the basis of the UN Security Council’s mandate, the participation of Latvia’s military contingent in the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan has been extended until 31 December 2014.
