Saeima to help organise benefit concert for Ukrainian children

(13.05.2015.)

Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, has accepted the invitation of the Latvian Rotary Club Chapter Rīdzene to become patroness of the benefit concert for Ukrainian children. Proceeds and donations from the Children of War concert on 6 July at the Dzintari Concert Hall will be used for Ukrainian children’s relief. All members of the Saeima will be invited to attend the event.

The concert will be broadcast on television, radio and internet to raise donations and together with proceeds from ticket sales provide rehabilitation for children – victims of the war in Ukraine – at Latvian health care institutions and rehabilitation centres.

“We feel the pain of others as deeply as our own. The war in Ukraine is not only Ukraine’s problem. Ukraine is defending our shared values. All efforts to help the innocent victims of the war will only make us more humane and safe in the knowledge that we will also be protected”, stresses Speaker Mūrniece.

The Speaker of the Saeima has also invited Petro Poroshenko, the President of Ukraine, as well as Ukrainian, Estonian and Lithuanian parliamentarians to attend the concert.

The concert will feature performers such as Inese Galante, Sergejs Jēgers, Sonora Vaice, Dmytro Popov (Ukraine), Armands Siliņš, Kārlis Lācis, Raimonds Tiguls, Katrīna Paula Felsberga, Jānis Stībelis, Oleksiy Demchenko (Ukraine), Liāna Langa, Biruta Ozoliņa, Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, Choir Kamēr..., Riga Cathedral Girls' Choir TIARA.

On Wednesday, 13 May, Speaker Mūrniece will take part in a press conference organised by the concert steering group.
