On Thursday, 5 November, the Parliament of Latvia (Saeima) at the first reading supported in principle the draft law on the next year’s state budget submitted by the government. 

The draft law on the state budget for 2010 was adopted at the first reading with 64 members of Parliament voting for, 32 voting against, and 1 abstaining.

The Saeima has also supported in principle draft amendments to 66 laws and three draft laws related to the budget.

The Saeima decided that the proposals for the second reading of the draft law on the state budget have to be submitted by noon on Monday, 9 November.

It is expected that at the second and final reading on the draft law on the state budget for 2010 the Parliament will vote in 1 December.
