“As a reliable ally and true friend, we wish the Ukrainian people to shape the future they desire – in a free, democratic and European country where there is no war and where kids have joyful and happy childhood,” said Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, today, on 17 March, as she addressed the participants of the international project “Children for Peace Around the World” in the Latvian parliament.

“The mission of a journalist is to drive the world, rather than merely reflect. I wish all media in Latvia, and public media in particular, to always have a clear vision of the direction in which you move the world and our country - Latvia,” said   Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, in her opening address at the discussion “Constructive news – responsibility of public media” held at the Saeima today. The concept of constructive news was presented by Ulrik Haagerup, Head of News for the Danish Broadcasting Corporation.

Speaker Mūrniece: Latvia’s freedom was obtained on the Barricades
“At the time of the Barricades we breathed as one. It was 25 years ago in January when we gathered around bonfires and used our warmth to keep the delicate flower of freedom from withering. We prevailed and kept it alive. And it will live on as long as people are prepared to defend it,” said Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, on Wednesday, 20 January, during an anniversary event dedicated to the Barricades of January 1991. 
Ināra Mūrniece congratulates Georgian speaker on visa liberalisation progress
On Tuesday, 19 January, Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, met with David Usupashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, at the Saeima. The Chairman of the Georgian parliament is in Latvia on an official visit. “Reforms implemented by Georgia are bringing rewards, and I really hope that Georgians will soon be able to enjoy all the benefits of visa-free travel to the European Union (EU). I would like to congratulate my Georgian colleagues on the progress that has been achieved and wish you success in future work that will hopefully result in full and final Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia”, underlined the Speaker of the Saeima.
Ināra Mūrniece at the ceremonial sitting of 18 November: people will only defend what they value; we must do what it takes to ensure that our people value our state
On Wednesday, 18 November, a ceremonial sitting of the Saeima marking the 97th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Latvia was held at the Saeima. “It is during times of peace when a state may build its security. First of all, it is built in the minds of the people. People will only defend what they consider worth fighting for. We must do what it takes to ensure that our people perceive our state as something worth defending,” said Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, addressing the ceremonial meeting.

On Saturday, 14 November, Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, laid flowers at the Embassy of France in Riga, commemorating the victims of  the recent terrorist attack and expressing her support to French people.
