Solvita Āboltiņa to officially visit Austria

From 10 to 12 June Solvita Āboltiņa, Speaker of the Saeima, is visiting Vienna, Austria, following an invitation extended by Barbara Prammer, President of the Austrian National Council.

During the visit, Āboltiņa will meet with Barbara Prammer, President of the Austrian National Council, members of the European Union Affairs Committee of the Austrian National Council, as well as Wolfgang Waldner, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs. It is also planned for the Saeima delegation to visit the Latvian embassy and meet representatives of the Latvian expatriate community in Austria.

During her meetings with Austrian officials, Āboltiņa plans to address the broadening of bilateral relations, cooperation between the parliaments and sectoral committees. Cooperation of small and medium member states in defending their interests in the European Union is another important topic to be covered in discussions. The Latvian delegation will emphasise Latvia’s interests within the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework. It is also planned to discuss the close and fruitful cooperation between Latvia and Austria in such areas as culture and education.

During the visit, the Speaker of the Saeima is accompanied by Jānis Vucāns, Deputy Secretary of the Saeima, and Inese Lībiņa-Egnere, MP representing Zatler’s Reform Party.
